The anti-aliasing requirements for area and timing measurements in sampled systems

This paper calculates the requirements of a class of anti-aliasing filters for detector read-out in sampled systems. The filter order and its cut-off frequency are related to the errors in area and timing reconstruction, assuming that the phase variation is the dominant source of error compared with quantization and electronic noise. Plots are presented to facilitate the design of filter parameters matching the physics requirements on the maximal error.
