Successful surgical management of delayed-presenting, completely-transected right main bronchus in a child
2021
Paediatric thoracic trauma is relatively uncommon accounting for 5%–12% of all paediatric trauma cases. It is associated with high morbidity and mortality. We report a case of a 14-year-old girl who presented with right haemo-pneumothorax and intercostal chest drain in situ after 4 weeks following road traffic accident. Complete transection of the right main bronchus was seen on flexible bronchoscopy and contrast-enhanced computed tomography chest. Right thoracotomy and primary repair of right main bronchus helped to salvage the right lung.
