SECTOR MIPYME EN COLOMBIA: ENTRE LA INFORMALIDAD Y LA FORMALIZACIÓN

2020
The micro, small and medium-sized enterprise sector -MiPyme- contributes significantly to the generation of employment and the Gross Domestic Product -GDP-, for which the governments develop support policies that contribute to significantly improve the conditions of the same. This article carries out an analysis of productivity, employment, financing and the formalization of the MSME sector in Colombia, based on statistics from the National Administrative Department of Statistics -DANE-, the International Labor Organization -OIT- and the Economic Commission for Latin America-ECLAC. The study shows a certain similarity with the rest of Latin American countries: low factor productivity, high informality that entails little technological development, low human capital formation, low access to credit and therefore low product quality. Similarly, it was found that support policies have not contributed significantly to business formalization, given the increase in salary costs that this implies, which is why most companies in the sector continue to work in the informal sector.
