Role of inflammation and oxidative stress in the development of arterial hypertension

2021
Current ideas about the involvement of inflammation and oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of arterial hypertension (AH) are considered. The relationship between the main pro-inflammatory cytokines and target organ damage in patients with AH was noted. The role of the vascular endothelium in the regulation of inflammation and oxidative stress, including in conditions of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 in patients with AH, is discussed. The data of the carried out experimental, clinical and population studies indicated that subclinical inflammation and oxidative stress can lead to the development of AH and affect the clinical progress of the disease, including damage of target organs. However, despite the available data, it is currently unclear whether inflammation is a cause or a consequence of AH. Determination of the parameters of nonspecific inflammation and oxidative stress can be used for early detection of target organ damage, assessment of the prognosis of the disease course and the effectiveness of treatment. Further studies of the role of inflammation, immune reactivity, and oxidative stress in AH may lead to the discovery of new strategies for prevention and treatment of the disease. © 2021, Professionalnye Izdaniya.
