Festuca eskia Ramond ex DC. en Pyrénées françaises, bilan nomenclatural, taxonomique et écologique

2005
An emblematic species of the pyrenean mountains, Festuca eskiaRamond ex DC. is an endemic grass from the Pyrenees and Cantabric Mountains, present upon large areas in strong slopes and masses of fallen rocks. Published in 1805 by De Candolle (in LAMARCKET DE CANDOLLE), this species is imputed to Ramond de Carbonnieres, who has collected it in a herbariumas early as 1793. We will try to focus on its chorology, with informations from Romanian Carpaths, where it was said to be seen in 1922 by Klastersky (KRAJINA, 1933). All taxons of the Eskia Willk. section whose type Festuca eskiais, have been studied upon macro, micro-morphological and for a part molecular characters, allowing the reorganization of this section. Morphological studies challenge the varieties (var. orientalis and var. eskia) proposed by Negre in (1975) and focus on hybridations of Festuca eskiawith two others species of its section: F. gautieri et F. quadriflora. Finally, we will present briefly its synecology along Pyrenees.
