Applications of the ECO LOGIC Process to the treatment of US DOE and DoD hazardous waste inventories

1997
The ECO LOGIC Process is a patented, mobile technology which can destroy toxic organic hazardous waste through gas-phase chemical reduction. The process separates toxic chemicals from soils, metals and other materials, changing them into useful products. A closed-loop process, it eliminates any uncontrolled emissions. The US Army is seeking alternative technologies for the safe disposal of chemical munitions currently in storage at several stockpile sites in the continental US. The ECO LOGIC Process was one of only three private sector technologies selected for further evaluation by the US National Research Council Alternative Technology Panel. In May 1996, ECO LOGIC successfully completed a demonstration of the Process using a pilot-scale unit specially designed for the treatment of chemical warfare agents. US Army audited results confirmed that the ECO LOGIC Process completely destroys HD and VX with Destruction and Removal Efficiencies of 99.999999%. Scrubber solution analyses for HD and VX showed that neither agent was detected in any sample. The detection limits for these agents were equivalent to drinking water standards. Results of the above treatability studies along with recent advances in applications of the ECO LOGIC Process and will be presented.
