Importance of Sulphur in Promoting Sustainable Agriculture: An overview

Sulphur (S) is one of the essential elements for plant and human life, and it is the building block for amino acids and proteins in the plant and human body. S applied in the agricultural field in form of secondary nutrients which are associated with primary nutrient sources in a different form. With the advancement of production system and use of high analysis fertilizer S deficiency appear in soils and plants system, after some this deficiency affect the dietary requirement of S in human, if S application in deficient soil neglected over the year in long term basis. The most common S sources applied in the soil are elemental sulphur and gypsum. Moreover, 95% of the total S in soil present in organic matter, after transformation in the soil through different biochemical processes becomes available to plant in form of sulfate S (SO42-).
