Innovative Techniques in Pelvic Reconstructions
2021
Significant advancements have been made in pelvic reconstruction in the last decades. Pelvic resections can be left flail or be reconstructed. The overarching goal for pelvic reconstruction is to provide pelvic girdle support for maximal function. Although pelvic resection without reconstruction should be considered, the functional outcomes of resection without reconstruction are often unacceptable to patient and surgeon in light of modern techniques and implant design. This chapter will focus on the indications, relevant anatomy, and innovations related to spinopelvic, sacral, bulk allograft, and proximal femoral reconstructions.
