Research on Unified Power Flow Controller's Application Scheme in provincial power grid

The Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) can distribute the line transmission power rationally and improve the stability of power grid operation, which is not only the focus of the current attention of the engineering community but also the hot spot in the academic field. This paper first expounds the principle of UPFC to improve the power grid's transmission capacity, and puts forward its site selection method and process. On the basis of analyzing 750/330(500/220) kV grid's weak links and existing problems in the transmission/power supply, this article puts forward the alternative points for installing UPFC, which are suitable for the actual situation of the provincial power grid. Using the BPA simulation platform to quantify the capacity requirements and control effects of the selected points, a comprehensive analysis of economy and technology of the schemes is carried out. The results show that UPFC has strong capability in improving the transmission capability, which can solve the existing problems in provincial power grid effectively.
