The main objective of the OLIMPO project, a large stratospherictelescope, is the measurement of the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect in many clusters of galaxies during a long-duration balloonflight. We describe the OLIMPO experiment, and outline the scientific rationale of balloon-borne measurements of the effect.
