Development of real-time patient health (jaundice) monitoring using wireless sensor network

2016
Jaundice is defines as yellow color of the skin in newborn infant. This health condition is common in newborn and happen due to overproduced of bilirubin. Jaundice clinically appears when the level of serum bilirubin rises beyond 250μmol/L (5 mg/dl). Jaundice could cause abnormalities in the newborn such as kernicterus and cerebral palsy. The advancement of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology has provided so many advantages and positive outcomes including in medical healthcare area. WSN is a collection of autonomous sensors that are capable of collecting, execute simple local analysis and communicating wirelessly with other WSN devices or nodes. This research aim to create a low cost jaundice meter and develop a real-time monitoring system in newborn based on symptom from a selected parameter list. This system comprises WSN element as data transmitting and receiving in order to create reliable jaundice meter that can be used in hospitals, healthcare center and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
