Web-Based Architecture for Broadcast and Broadband Content with Device Collaboration in a Local Network

2021
To develop broadcast programs and applications that can be used even on a diverse device such as a smart and/or Internet of Things (IoT) device, we propose a common architecture for device-independent content presentation based on Web technology. In this study, to realize flexible cooperation between several types of devices, we focus on device cooperation in a local network and realize the cooperation of each device in an equal role. First, we organize use cases for content presentation using various smart and/or IoT devices and extract the requirements. Subsequently, we propose a common receiver architecture fulfilling all the requirements containing equal role device cooperation in the local network. The proposed architecture relies on Web technology and presents content by a user agent in each device. The proposed content presentation middleware for the user agent abstracts the differences of devices and realizes equal role device cooperation in the local network. We realize device-independent cooperation in the proposed architecture by developing a prototype for TVs and smartphones; thus, verifying its operation.
