UAV-Assisted Cellular Communication: Joint Trajectory and Coverage Optimization

2021
Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted cellular communication is regarded as a promising solution for the data traffic offloading of cell-edge users, who often have throughput bottlenecks. As an air base station (ABS), UAV has high mobility, flexible deployment, high probability of line-of-sight (LoS) link, etc. In this paper, we propose a cooperation schema between multiple ground base stations (GBSs) and UAV to optimize the coverage of GBSs and UAV. Firstly, we jointly optimize the coverage division, the spectrum allocation, and UAV’s trajectory to maximize the minimum throughput of cell-edge users. Secondly, we propose an iterative algorithm to solve the non-convex problem and obtain a suboptimal solution. Finally, in the simulation, the other two strategies are compared with the algorithm proposed in this paper to prove its effectiveness.
