To the Editor: Adverse cardiac events are a major cause of morbidity and mortality after noncardiac surgery. Prevention of cardiac risk events is one of the most important tenets of anesthetic practice.1–3 We read with great interest the article by Lurati Buse1 on Randomized Comparison of SevofluraneVersus Propofol to Reduce PerioperativeMyocardial Ischemia in Patients Undergoing Noncardiac Surgery. In their article the authors recorded continuous ECG for 48 hours perioperatively, measured troponin Tand N-terminal prohormoneof brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP) on postoperative days 1 and 2 strictly in accordance with the study protocol.
