Pilot beheer en inzaaien bloemrijke dijken Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal: Rapportage 2020

2021
In 2017, an experiment was set up at 2 locations along the dyke of the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. The aim of the trial was to investigate whether grasslands along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal could be made more floriferous, while continuing to guarantee water safety (erosion resistance). To make the grassland more flowery, an existing dike vegetation has been sown with herbs. The effect of careful removal of the clippings was also investigated by having part of the route managed by another contractor. The developments were followed during the following 3 years. After 3 years, the experiment has yielded the main conclusion that the sowing of species in an existing dike vegetation is possible and that the biodiversity can thus be increased. Good management with careful removal of the clippings is important in this regard. This also improves the rooting and covering and thus the erosion resistance.
