Load Flow Analysis of Islanded Microgrids

2021
Load flow analysis in power system is very important for the planning and expansion of power systems. Micro-grids are gaining popularity due to the amalgamation of distributed generations (DG), and it is crucial to conduct a load flow study of micro-grids. There are two operating modes for micro-grids, the first as grid-connected mode and the second is islanded mode. In the grid-connected mode of operation, load flow analysis can be easily carried away by using conventional load flow techniques. However, in the islanded mode of operation, the conventional load flow techniques can not be used, because of the absence of slack bus. These conventional techniques are modified, so that these techniques can be applied to perform load flow analysis in is-landed balanced micro-grids. This paper presents the load flow analysis of balanced islanded micro-grids using the Modified Gauss-Seidel method (MGS). MGS is applied on 6-bus and 12-bus test systems.
