SALMONELLA SPINAL EPIDURAL ABSCESS IN A TODDLER PRESENTING WITH PROLONGED FEVER: SPINAL EPIDURAL ABSCESS IN A TODDLER

2021
The incidence of spinal epidural abscess in pediatric population is rare. The diagnosis is difficult because localizing signs may not be present at initial presentation. In this report, we describe the first case of epidural abscess caused by Salmonella enterica subsp. houtenae . The organism was identified by 16s rRNA sequencing method. The patient was successfully treated with multilevel laminotomy with draining abscess and 6-week course of intravenous cefotaxime.
