Protective Effect of Moisturizers on Photoaging

Moisturizers are commonly used cosmetic products. In particular, physiological lipid mixtures (PLM) or pseudoceramide-containing PLM are known to enhance the recovery of the barrier function are widely used (1, 2). We previously reported that long-term exposure of suberythemal dose of ultraviolet (UV) radiation can damage the epidermal lipid layer, thereby indicating that perturbation of the barrier is related to cutaneous photoaging process (3).
