Protective Effect of Moisturizers on Photoaging

2017
Moisturizers are commonly used cosmetic products. In particular, physiological lipid mixtures (PLM) or pseudoceramide-containing PLM are known to enhance the recovery of the barrier function are widely used (1, 2). We previously reported that long-term exposure of suberythemal dose of ultraviolet (UV) radiation can damage the epidermal lipid layer, thereby indicating that perturbation of the barrier is related to cutaneous photoaging process (3). Based on this, we may ask whether daily moisturizer use can affect the UV-damaged barrier function and, by extension, photoaging. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
