Hyperhidrosis and Obesity

2018
Obesity is a chronic disease characterized by an excessive amount of body fat, which increases the risk of health-related problems. Overweight and obesity are among the main conditions related to hyperhidrosis, probably due to the reduced heat loss caused by the thick subcutaneous adipose tissue layer, which may lead to a compensatory response characterized by the excessive production of sweat. Therefore, the nutritional management of overweight and obesity could be useful to improve hyperhidrosis-related symptoms. Accordingly, recent evidence suggests the benefits of dietary treatment based on long-term lifestyle changes, with energy deficit resulting from portion size control and the adoption of a healthy eating pattern, with higher consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, and lean meats, along with reduced intake of foods with high amounts of saturated and trans fat, sugars, and sodium.
