Microstructure and property evaluation of TA15 titanium alloy fabricated by selective laser melting after heat treatment

2021
Abstract Selective laser melting has been used to fabricate TA15 titanium alloy, and its microstructure and property after heat treatment at different building directions have been analyzed. As-received TA15 was composed of a small amount of β and a large amount of acicular αʹ. The heat-treated TA15 was a typical basket-weave structure and composed of α + β phase. After heat treatment, the acicular martensite transformed into α phases, and their amount and width increased. Microstructural evaluation promoted the improvement of ductile property. Although the tensile and yield strength of samples decreased, while their elongation increases to 46.7% after 800 °C heat treatment. Fracture morphology showed that the size and depth of dimple increased as heat-treatment time increased, indicating the toughness of TA15 had improved.
