Study of the Modulation by Correlation in the Time and Frequency Domains of Wave Height and Microwave Signal

1986
This chapter presents some preliminary results on the modulation of backscattered microwave signals over a range of wave heights and wind speeds, as a function of several radar parameters (angle of incidence, polarization and frequency). The spectrum of the backscattered signal generally has a peak at the dominant ocean wave frequency, though significant peaks are observed at other frequencies as well. These, presumably, result from the non-linearities in the relationship between wave spectrum and radar return spectrum.
