Factors Influencing Residential Choices in Flood-Prone Areas: From Principles to Actors’ Actual Practices
2020
Abstract: Since risk is defined as the encounter between a risk and an exposure, the risk incurred by individuals is inseparable from their residential choices. The choice of home location determines – at least in part – the exposure of residents to risk in their place of residence (non-mobile exposure). In support of a case study conducted in southeastern France – particularly exposed to flash floods – this chapter explores the factors influencing these residential choices in flood-prone areas.
