Production of hyperons and anti-hyperons in heavy-ion collisions at SPS: Experiments at the CERN Omega spectrometer

Abstract Recent results from the CERN Omega spectrometer on the enhancement of strangeand multiply strangeparticle production in nucleus-nucleuswith respect to proton- nucleuscollisions are summarized. In particular, the new data from the WA97 experiment on Ω, Ξ and Λ production in PbPb and p-Pb collisions are presented and discussed.
