The Role of the Neuropsychologist in Deep Brain Stimulation

2019
Abstract Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is approved in the United States primarily for the treatment of movement disorders, although it is also approved for obsessive–compulsive disorder, and as an adjunct treatment for partial seizures. This chapter reviews the state of the art regarding neuropsychological effects of DBS in Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, and dystonia. The utility of neuropsychological evaluation in outcome prediction, risk factors for poor outcome, and evaluation practice is also discussed.
