Optical Super-High Magnification Dermoscopy

2020
Optical super-high magnification dermoscopy (OSHMD) is a promising tool for clinically difficult-to-diagnose skin tumors; this technique is based on the use of the capillaroscopy objective of Fotofinder Medicam 1000 (Fotofinder System, Bad Birnbach, Germany), which can allow a more careful investigation of some “local” dermoscopic features of skin tumors, namely pigment network, dots, globules, white scar-like depigmentation areas, site-specific structures, and vascular structures. Although formal studies about the diagnostic impact of this technique in routine practice are still lacking, our experience suggests that the clinical diagnosis of melanocytic tumors with regression-like features as well as of flat pigmented lesions of the face will mostly benefit from this technique.
