The Eco Logic gas-phase chemical reduction process

1994
The ECO LOGIC Process is a patented gas-phase chemical reduction process suitable for the destruction of highly hazardous organic chemicals. This is a commercial-scale mobile system for on-site treatment. With the ECO LOGIC technology any combination of organic contaminants at any concentration can be treated with proven destruction and removal efficiencies (DRES) of at least 99.9999%. Unlike typical incineration systems ECO LOGIC employs a closed-loop destruction process with no uncontrolled emissions and through the use of a reducing atmosphere there is no opportunity for the incidental formation of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (dioxins) or dibenzofurans (furans). Organic contaminants are permanently destroyed, thus eliminating the need for off-site disposal of hazardous organic residuals. Outputs from the system can generally be recycled or reused on site. In the fall of 1992, ECO LOGIC completed a demonstration program in Bay City, Michigan, with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) as part of the Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) Program. An organochlorine fluid containing 26% polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) as well as contaminated groundwater and soils were processed in separate streams. USEPA evaluation confirmed DREs of 99.9999%. Previously, in 1991, ECO LOGIC completed a field demonstration at Hamilton Harbour, Ontario, where audited results confirmed DREs ofmore » 99.9999% or better on polyaromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) coal tar contaminated sediments.« less
