BILZINGSLEBEN: The Bilzingsleben Collection

The Steinrinne is a Middle Pleistocene interglacialtravertine deposit near Bilzingsleben. The material excavated by Dietrich Maniafrom 1971 to 2002 and by the University of Jena from 2003 to 2007 is stored at the latter institution. This collection contains the oldest human remains of Central Germany and is a major biostratigraphic reference of palaeontological and palaeoecological research.
