Challenges to democracy in the Middle East

This text presents five essays containing background information on some of the problems which affect the modern Middle East. Topics addressed include: the appeal of conspiracy theories to Iranians; the absence of democracy in Lebanon and Syria in the 1990s; and feminist movements in Turkey.
