Episodic release of CO2 from the high-latitude North Atlantic Ocean during the last 135 kyr

Glacial- interglacialvariations in atmospheric pCO2remain unexplained. Here, the authors show that the NorwegianSea, an modern area of intense CO2 uptake, acted as a CO2 source during the terminations of Heinrich stadials1, 4 and 11, sometimes characterized by rapid increases in atmospheric pCO2.
