Uso della rivastigmina in pazienti affetti da demenza vascolare o mista

2001
Use of rivastigmine in patients afflicted by vascular dementia or mixed forms. Efficacy and safety of rivastigmine were evaluated in a open-label study of 20 patients afflicted by vascular dementia or mixed forms. In this current study the benefits of rivastigmina administration were investigated by following patients over a 44 week period. Efficacy was assessed by ADAS-Cog, CIBIC-Plus and MMSE. The treatment with rivastigmine produces a significant improvement in cognitive performance and global functioning with results that are not substantially different from the data from the studies of patients with Alzheimer's disease. Rivastigmina was generally well tolerated. Adverse events occurring only in 5 patients (25%); the majority were mild, transient and they did not require interruption of the treatment. These findings support the hypothesis that the use of rivastigmina may yield benefits in patients with vascular dementia or Alzheimer's disease associated with vascular dementia.
