Analysis of defibrillation in pre-hospital first aid in the 120 network hospitals in Jiangmen

Objective To know the status of the emergency care personnel skills about defibrillation so as to provide some reference for implementing the standardized skill training. Methods Interview and a self-designed questionnaire were taken to conduct investigation on automated external defibrillator (AED) status of community provision, defibrillator in the ambulance, routine training, and the emergency skills about defibrillation. Results There were no AEDs in public places in Jiangmen. There were no AEDs in the ambulances, there were only defibrillators in the ambulances. There were programmes about the emergency skills for the emergency care personnel in 70% hospitals in Jiangmen. The qualified rate about defibrillation skills in primary hospitals (73.2%) was significantly lower than that in the second-level and above hospitals (87.9%) (P<0.05). Conclusion There was a shortage of AED in public places and the ambulances in Jiangmen. The level of emergency skills about defibrillation was generally low. We should strengthen the training of emergency care personnel in medical units of all levels, especially for the emergency care personnel in primary hospitals.
