Power Allocation for OFDM-Based RadCom Systems

2021
Due to the spectrum and complexity constraints, the integrated radar and communication (RadCom) systems have been widely studied recently. This paper considers a typical vehicle-to-everything (V2X) scenario with frequency-sensitive targets in frequency-selective channels. Thus, the transmit power on each subcarrier needs to be allocated wisely so as to guarantee both radar and communication performance. We propose an adaptive power allocation scheme with two stages. In the target detection stage, the channel capacity and target detection probability are jointly optimized, while in the parameter estimation stage, a multi-objective optimization framework is devised to achieve the trade-off between the channel capacity and the accuracy of radar parameter estimation. Simulation results reveal that the radar-related criteria have very similar optimal solutions in our investigated cases. Therefore, the power allocation could be relaxed on radar requirements, which will reduce the design complexity of RadCom systems.
