Chinchorro, momias de preparaci?n complicada: M?todos de momificaci?n

Due to a recent salvage operation we were able to study the process of mummificationof the remains of approximately 96 Chinchorro mummies. The classifications suggested by Uhle are still valid, but a 4th class was found that may be an incomplete type 3 mummification. The carbon-14dates indicate that the oldest is type 2, 7810 B.P. comparable with dates of similar mummies from Camarones-14. The type 1, which are the sun dried bodies, date from 3790 to 4200 B.P. and are contemporaries of type 3, 3670 to 4570 B.P.
