Qualitative seismic interpretation

Abstract Seismic data has become almost an exclusive tool used in petroleum exploration and exploitation. In recent years, the resolution and reliability of seismic data have greatly improved, enabling us to identify and map not only structure but stratigraphy as well. By mapping stratigraphy, we can discover hydrocarbon reserves that might otherwise remain undetected. We can also now recognize lateral facies and porosity changes and map the distribution of fractures and to identify pore fluids.
