High Precision Terrain Corrections for Next Generation Airborne Gravity Data

SUMMARY Next generation airborne gravity systems are expected to deliver significant improvements in measurement precision and resolution. In rough terraina major component of the measured data will be the effects of the terrainbeneath the aircraft, and corrections are routinely applied to remove most of these terraineffects. In order to fully utilise the higher precision data, advances in estimating these terraineffects will be necessary. This paper will describe some of the steps necessary to improve estimation of terraineffects and demonstrate the expected improvement in target recognition.
