Fragment Molecular Orbital Method as Cluster Expansion

In this chapter, the energy increment scheme employed in the fragment molecular orbital (FMO) method is systematically analyzed and validated in terms of a cluster expansion in the framework of the cumulant expansion. Some relationships and similarities among various theoretical approaches concerning the cluster expansion for fragments are comprehensively addressed.
