The Building Blocks of Matter

2016
After a short excursus on the atom, the basic building block of matter, the Chapter deals with the most basic properties of nuclei, their composition, size, mass and density. The nucleus is a tiny bundle of concentrated mass and energy at the centre of the atom. It is about one hundred thousand times smaller than the atom itself and is, in turn, an aggregate of other particles: protons and neutrons.
