Early warning systemsenable more proactive, less reactive responses which are well tailored for local conditions. The practical information generated by reliable
hydrometmonitoring and effective forecasting, which underpins
early warning systems, is a
public goodwith which governments and their partners can protect the productivity of agricultural livelihoods and food security among both producers and consumers. Moreover, other
climate-sensitivesectors of the economy beyond the agricultural sector would also benefit from
hydrometand
early warning systems(EWSs).
