Asleep at the wheel: oil addiction implications for urban transport

2010
This paper assesses the oil addictionimplications to urban transport. Two metropolitan areasare compared in terms of urban and regional policymaking and actions. The analysis indicates that there may be considerable impacts to well-being, because no specific planning/policy initiatives have been taken to address oil addictionand there is limited knowledge on the potential consequences of oil shortages and/or substantial fuel price increases. There would be various ways to seriously address the oil addictionissue, but it is clear that there will not be any "magic" solutions that will make the problem go away without a long-term vision and coordinated actions from all stakeholders.
