Synergistic engineering of 1D electrospun nanofibers and 2D nanosheets for sustainable applications

2020
Abstract The increasing environmental problems in contemporary society require material science researchers to develop high-performance functional materials for the ecological sustainable developments. One-dimensional (1D) nanofibers (NFs) and two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets (NSs) are two kinds of fundamental building blocks for advanced nanocomposite materials. Electrospinning are one of the most versatile techniques for constructing 1D NFs-based nanocomposites that have attracted considerable attentions in the last two decades. Ultrathin 2D NSs have been recognized as considerable materials to couple with electrospun NFs by either in-situ growth or physical blending approach. In this paper, a comprehensive review is presented on the developments related to the sustainable applications of NSs coupled electrospun NFs nanocomposites. We introduce the heterogeneous functional nanocomposites applied for energy storage, catalysis, adsorption, separation, sensing and others including biomedical application and electromagnetic shielding. Summary and outlook concerning the future development of the synergistic engineering designed 1D-2D nanocomposites are also introduced briefly.
