A search for the kappa meson

Abstract An experiment has been completed in which we looked at the reaction K + + p → K o + π + + π − + π + + p using 3.52 GeV/ c K + mesons in the BNL 80 ″ chamber. This type of reaction produced a high yield of k 's for an incoming K + of 3.0 GeV/ c . No evidence is found of the k at this energy. Some evidence of k production is seen in the reaction K + + p → K o + ω o + π + + p. The conclusion is that the k is not a resonant state.
