Caracterização da Avifauna na Área de Proteção Ambiental de Guadalupe, Pernambuco

ABSTRACT. Characterization of the Avifauna in the Guadalupe Environmental Protection Area, Pernambuco. The Guadalupe Environmental Protection Area is located in the Southern coast of the state of Pernambuco (8o34’42”/8°40’24”S and 35°16’54”/34°59’56”W), consisting of a total area of 44,799ha, with several physiognomies: beaches, mangroves, restinga and Atlantic forest fragments. From November 1999 to March 2000 and from May 2001 to February 2002 an avifauna survey in the area was performed, as well as a compilation of the available information (bibliography and scientific collections), in order to characterize the avifauna of the region, based upon conservationist and ecological aspects. In the Guadalupe EPA, a total of 242 bird species, distributed in 52 families were recorded, from which Tyrannidae (n = 31) and Thraupidae (n = 20) were the most representative. Eighteen registered species are in some type of threatened status. Due to number of endemic and threatened species, the Guadalupe Environmental Protection Area is recognized as an Important Bird Area (IBA) and its forest areas need to be connected in order to reduce the impacts derived from fragmentation. A Area de Protecao Ambiental de Guadalupe esta localizada no litoral Sul do estado de Pernambuco (8°34’42”/8°24’40” S e 35°16’54”/34°59’56” W), possuindo uma area total de 44.799 ha com diversas fisionomias: praia, mangue, restinga e fragmentos de floresta Atlântica. Nos periodos de novembro de 1999 a marco 2000 e maio de 2001 a fevereiro de 2002, foi realizado o inventario avifaunistico da area, bem como o levantamento de informacoes ja existentes atraves de bibliografia e colecoes cientificas, visando caracterizar a avifauna da regiao, com base em aspectos ecologicos e conservacionistas. Para a APA Guadalupe foram registradas 242 especies de aves, distribuidas em 52 familias, onde Tyrannidae (n = 31) e Thraupidae (n = 20) foram as mais representativas. Dezoito especies encontram-se em alguma categoria de ameaca. Devido ao numero de especies endemicas e ameacadas de extincao, a area estudada enquadra-se como Important Bird Area (IBA) e suas areas de mata necessitam ser conectadas com o intuito de diminuir os impactos oriundos da fragmentacao.
