Issues in Designing Clinical Trials of Iodine Supplementation

I will briefly review trials of iodine supplementation, including the two ongoing trials. I will then give pros and cons for two approaches: individual randomization versus community randomization. Issues involved in designing a trial of iodine supplementation in regions of mild or no deficiency will then be discussed. Finally, some examples of sample size considerations for a hypothetical trial will be presented. References
