The SIMBAT Software Package for Stochastic Interpolation of Ocean Wave Kinematics as an Aid in the Engineering Design of Large Floating Structures

1992
Geostatistical techniques of nonconditional and conditional simulation are used in a new public domain computer software package, named SIMBAT, to stochastically interpolate ocean wave property time histories, such as water levels and the components of subsea water particle velocities and accelerations. The input required are the parameters for a model of the directional wave spectral density, and, in the conditional simulation option, concurrent sections of time histories of the wave properties which are to be imposed into the simulations. The software produces random simulations of the wave kinematics and geometries which are consistent to the input and with linear directional wave theory. The ensemble of simulations are properly intercorrelated with the imposed intervals of known wave history and follow a spectral density having random sampling error from the population spectral density input.
