Eccrine squamous syringometaplasia associated with vemurafenib therapy

for genetic aberrations of the immune system that may play a role in predisposing individuals to developing MF. However, data on possible etiologic factors involved in the multistep carcinogenic mechanism are equivocal. In general, it is thought that MF represents a disease potentiated by chronic antigen stimulation resulting in clonally activated T cells with malignant potential. Infectious pathogens, both viral and bacterial, and chemical exposures have been implicated as possible inciting agents in MF; yet, evidence for causation was lacking. Skin-limited disease appears to be a result of clonal skin resident effector memory cells. Although the pathogenesis of MF remains unclear, associations between chronic dermatoses and MF have been described. Although our patient was not formally patch tested, it is plausible that an initial contact allergy from the sex hormones or chemical components of the contraceptive patch could have resulted in a robust, chronic dermatitis that enabled malignant transformation of a subset of CD4 cells. However, subsequent observations are necessary to validate this potential association between chronic dermatoses and MF.
