Budapest is a city born in 1873 by unifying two independent areas separated by the Danube. In 1871, the Counsel for Public Utility Works, the task of which was to prepare a town planning scheme after the integration of the city, held an
urban designcompetition. The purpose of the competition was to connect the two areas by
transport plansand to create monumental
cityscapeby placing public buildings. Although few of the ideas of the participants were adopted in the plan created by the Counsel, similar ideas were proposed by urban planners later and some of them were realized.
