Functional Coatings of Gray-Cast Iron Brake Discs – Impact on the Tribology

2021
Modern passenger cars use disc brake systems to ensure proper stopping power under all operating conditions of the vehicle. One friction partner, the brake disc, is usually made of gray-cast iron. This means very good thermo-mechanical resistance, convenient tribological behavior, easy machining and very reasonable cost structures.
