Facial Appearance and Dominance in Leadership

The main aim of this chapter is to discuss the political and psychological roots of the emergence of dominant leaders. The chapter mostly concentrates on the selection of facial appearance of dominance. In the first part, the chapter focuses on contextual and individual factors that can influence followers while selecting dominant leaders. In the second part, the chapter discuss the role of facial appearance in one’s selection of a dominant looking leader. The chapter suggests that leader’s facial appearance, the suitability of the political environment and psychology of the followers can influence the emergence of dominant leaders.
