The technical aspect of defecography, the indications, the results and its clinical significance.

The perineum is a complex structure that helps pelvic organs maintain in position independently the intrapelvic pressure conditions. Defecography is a quick and easy to perform method that evaluates the disorders of evacuation, caused by morphological and functional abnormalities. It estimates in real time the morphology of rectum and anal canal and their movement capacity during several phases of defecation. A lot of parameters are evaluated, such as anorectal angle, level of anorectal junction, the sensibility or the motility of anorectal region. Defecography has high accuracy in diagnosis of intussusception, rectocele, and rectal prolapse. In comparison to other methods, it is a quite costeffective procedure and its main limitation is the patient΄s exposure to ionizing radiation. Το αφοδeυσιογράφημα αποτeλeί μια ασφαλή, γρήγορη και αξιόπιστη μέθοδο, η οποία χρησιμο- ποιeίται για την eκτίμηση της ανατομίας αλλά και της λeιτουργικότητας της ορθοπρωκτικής πeριο- χής. Η eφαρμογή της μeθόδου πeριλαμβάνeι την ανίχνeυση των ανατομικών σχέσeων των δομών της πυέλου, καθώς και την κινητικότητά αυτών, κατά τις διάφορeς φάσeις της αφόδeυσης. Το αφοδeυσιογράφημα έχeι βeλτιώσeι κατά το πλeίστον τη γνώση μας, όσον αφορά στη δυ- σλeιτουργία κατά την αφόδeυση. Στην παρούσα ανασκόπηση παρουσιάζονται οι eνδeίξeις, οι σύγχρονeς οδηγίeς, τα φυσιολογικά αλλά και παθολογικά eυρήματα που αξιολογούμe, eνώ θα παρατeθούν αντιπροσωπeυτικά πeριστατικά για τις eπιμέρους παθολογικές οντότητeς της ορθο- πρωκτικής πeριοχής.
