ES EL MÉDICO FAMILIAR EL ESPECIALISTA CON MEJOR PERFIL PARA LA ATENCIÓN PRIMARIA EN SALUD Y EL MÁS IDÓNEO PARA LIDERAR SUS EQUIPOS DE ATENCIÓN

RESUMEN La Atencion Primaria en Salud es el componente esencial del Sistema Sanitario. Sus actividades son la educacion sanitaria, provision de alimentos, nutricion adecuada, salubridad del agua, saneamiento basico, cuidado materno infantil, inmunizacion, prevencion y control de enfermedades endemicas, tratamiento basico y abastecimiento de farmacos. La especialidad en Medicina Familiar se encarga del cuidado de la salud total del individuo y su familia, combinando ciencias del comportamiento con ciencias tradicionales clinicas y biologicas, ofreciendo un cuidado integral, humanizado y continuo sin importar edad, sexo ni organo comprometido. Tanto la Medicina familiar como la Atencion primaria en salud poseen elementos conceptuales que las definen individualmente y que ademas tienen en comun: Primer contacto, Accesibilidad, Integralidad, Continuidad, Coordinacion, Orientacion familiar, Enfasis en promocion y prevencion, Atencion apropiada y Recursos adecuados y sostenibles. Teniendo en cuenta estos conceptos y la indiscutible congruencia entre la Medicina Familiar y la Atencion Primaria en Salud, podemos afirmar que es esta especialidad, la efectora mas idonea para realizar las intervenciones medicas necesarias en el contexto de la Atencion Primaria en Salud. Abstract Primary Health Care is an essential component of the Health System. Its activities include health education, provision of food, adequate nutrition, safe water, basic sanitation, maternal care, immunization, prevention and control of endemic diseases, basic treatment and supply of drugs. The specialty in Family Medicine is responsible for the total health care of individuals and their families, combining behavioral science with traditional clinical and biological sciences, offering comprehensive, humanized and continuous care regardless of age, sex, or organ involved. Both, Family Practice and Primary Health Care have conceptual elements that define themselves individually and that also have in common: First Contact, Accessibility, Integrality, Continuity, Coordination, Family Counseling, Emphasis on promotion and prevention, appropriate care and Sustainable resources. Given these concepts and the undisputed congruence between Family Medicine and Primary Health Care, we can say that this specialty is the most appropriate one to perform the necessary medical interventions in the context of Primary Health Care.
